With white sand beaches edged by the turquoise Andaman Sea, the largest Thai island has long cultivated a robust tourism industry with a diverse range of hotels. Now Mandarin Oriental is entering the fray in Phuket, with the recent announcement of a new beach resort to open on the island’s west coast in 2022. The project is a joint partnership with Thai developer Grand Larn Luang Co Ltd.
Situated on 23 acres on Laem Singh Bay, Mandarin Oriental, Phuket will take advantage of its setting in one of the “rare undeveloped beachfront sites still be found on Millionaire’s Mile,” to quote the official press release. Framed with rocky outcroppings, the white sand beach will allow direct guest access to snorkeling and swimming. The 105 guestrooms will be designed with lots of outdoor space for appreciating the panoramic views of the sunset over the Andaman Sea. Top digs: The crème de la crème of the accommodations will be the 37 pool villas—all of which will have views of the Andaman Sea and “significant outdoor space.”
Expect extensive facilities including The Spa at Mandarin Oriental, a fitness center, two outdoor swimming pools and a Kids Club. The three restaurants and bars will feature oceanfront settings, and there will also be a range of event space.
